Short answer. Shopify Payments is often disabled because of high chargebacks, products outside its terms, verification gaps or unusual sales spikes. The store itself can stay open. Respond to Shopify's request with documents, and if Payments cannot be restored, connect a third-party gateway that accepts your products.

Payments versus the store
A Shopify Payments closure stops card processing through Shopify's own processor. A store suspension takes the store offline. They are separate decisions with separate responses.
Common causes
- Chargeback or refund rates that look risky
- Products restricted by Shopify Payments or its banking partners
- Identity or business verification problems
- Large order spikes compared with your history
- Shipping delays that cause disputes
Payouts
Payouts can be held to cover disputes and refunds. Ask in writing what is held and on what schedule it will be released.
Keep trading
If Payments is not restored, compare third-party gateways that accept your category. Be accurate in the new application, including the previous closure if asked.
